Last week we hosted our free masterclass- Kids, Empathy, and Liberation: 3 powerful ways the arts can transform communities. We had so many more people sign up for it than expected (900!) and so many people sharing in the chat that the 4 of us couldn’t keep up! If you missed the fun and want to watch the recording, you can still access it here.
This week I’ve been in a moment of deep reflection, something is brewing beneath the surface- I can feel it, even if I can’t quite name it yet.
One thing I’ve been thinking about is how much we admire art and artists when the big production is on. The show! The concert! The event!
But SO much goes on beneath the surface. Every great painting has hundreds of thousands of iterations beneath it (or in the trash ;-). Part of the work of creating anything is taking in the world around us, being with it, processing it, digesting it, interpreting it. Sometimes that process is expansive and connective and sometimes that process can feel very hard and lonely.
I’m working on staying with those feelings instead of replacing them with busyness, with distraction- I’m working on trusting that something is unfurling, uncurling, expanding into a new skin.
I haven’t been doing very much art lately because the to-do list has been long- but when I do sneak it in here and there, it feels like I’m breathing again.
For those of you who are also needing a way to take a breath and be with the feelings, and want an easy entry point in to some art making, I’m linking this month’s new coloring page below. If you’re not a paid subscriber - you can be- by clicking the link below! If $6 a month is not doable for you- just message me-no questions asked- and I’ll hook you up.
Here’s to the brewing, that leads to the exploring, that leads to the making of big things. You are not alone.
